Mr. Frank Lewis Spence Jr., age 55, of Suffolk, VA, passed away Sunday, December 27, 2015, at Sentara Obici Hospital in Suffolk, VA.

Frank was born November 27, 1960, in Norfolk, VA, the son of the late Frank Lewis Spence Sr. and Jean Kline Spence. He was a diesel mechanic for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey L. Spence, his daughter, Danielle Spence and a son, Lucas Heuser. One sister, Jeannie Spence Welton of Roxobel, NC. Three brothers, Edgar Eugene Spence of Como, NC, Douglas Gregory Spence and Richard Carl Spence Sr, both of Aulander, NC. His stepchildren, Jamie Davis and Luke Davis and a granddaughter, Kaylee Jane Heuser.
Friends may join the family to celebrate Frank’s life, Friday, January 1, 2016 at 3:00 PM at the Aulander Community Building in Aulander, NC.

Elsie Gray Mizelle Phelps age 80, of Ahoskie, NC, passed away December 30, 2015.

Elsie was born January 12, 1935, the daughter of the late Kelly Mizelle and Ethel Jones Mizelle. She was also predeceased by a brother, Ernest Carlton Mizelle.
She is survived by her sister, Doris Faye Pierce of Ahoskie, NC, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 2, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Massey Funeral Home in Aulander, NC, with Chaplain Chet Rains officiating.
Burial will be private at Highland Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 12:30 until service time.

Mrs. Lona Wall Storey age 89, of Woodland, NC, passed away Monday, January 4, 2016, at Southampton Memorial Hospital in Franklin, VA.

Lona was born December 1, 1926 in Conway, NC, the daughter of the late William E. Wall and Hattie Burgess Wall. She was also predeceased by her first husband, Hubert F. Storey and her second husband, Howard C. Simmons, her sisters sand brothers, Delphia W. Futrell, Ruth Wall Brown, Ennis J. Wall, Jesse Wall, Lokie Wall , Willie Mae Wall and also a nephew, Benjamin Wall Brown.
She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
She is survived by her stepson, Charles Simmons and his wife Sharon and their daughter, Amy and her step daughter, Charlotte Simmons Gupton and her husband Charles and their sons, Ryan and Scott. Her nieces Brenda B. Watson and her husband Parker and their son, Hank Fuller, Patsy Gravley and her children Jeff Gravley and Angie Thornton. Her nephew's wife, Susanne Brown and her son, David R. Brown and his daughter Haley. Also many other nieces and nephews and special friends.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson, NC with Rev. Raymond Bunn officiating. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery, Woodland, NC.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 6, 2016 beginning at 1:00 Pm at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson, NC prior to services.

Mrs. Blythe was born March 24, 1926, in Northampton County, NC, the daughter of the late Gurney Rose and Addie Rose. She was also predeceased by her husband John Aubrey Blythe, three brothers, Rufus Rose Sr., Winfred Rose, Claudie Rose and two nephews, Rufus Rose Jr. and W. T. Rose.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews including, Katherine Floyd, Glenda Harrell, Frances Davis, Elizabeth Stallings, James Rose, Gurney Rose, Linfent Rose, Donald Rose, Dorothy Flythe, Addie Baird and Pearl Dunbar.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, January 7, 2016, at 2:00 PM at Seaboard Cemetery in Seaboard, NC, with Rev. Joshua Blythe officiating.

Mrs. Woodard was born December 21, 1935, in Hertford County, NC, the daughter of the late Manley Harrell and Olivia Parker Harrell. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Woodard Watson.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and a faithful member of Sharon United Methodist Church for over fifty years .
She is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Ted M. Woodard, her daughters, Karen Gardner and her husband Bobby of Greenville, NC, and Teresa Montgomery and her husband Jeff of Elizabeth City, NC. Six grandchildren, John and Ben Watson, Shelley and Holly Garriss , Laura and Hunter Bright. One great granddaughter, Evi Watson. Also one sister, Louise Vann and her husband George Thomas Vann of Conway, NC.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Sharon United Methodist Church with Rev. Keith Cobb and Helen Burtchell, CLM officiating. Burial will follow at the Town of Severn Cemetery.

Mr. Elliott Lee Vinson Jr., age 73, of Murfreesboro, NC passed away Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC.

Elliott was born May 18, 1942 in Norfolk, VA, the son of the late Elliott Lee Vinson Sr. and Ella Mae Hall Vinson. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Linda Marie Jernigan.

He was a member of Union Baptist Church and served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam war.
He is survived by his children, Elliott Lee Vinson III and his wife Kimberly of Caro, Michigan, Bernadette Redman and her husband DeLane of Eagle, Michigan, and Randi Lea Louise Vinson of Vermontville, Michigan.His step son, Waine Bigelow and his wife Rebekkah of Flint, Michigan His brother, Robert Eugene Vinson Sr. and his wife Kay of Winton, NC. . His sisters, Gloria Lassiter and her husband Abron of Murfreesboro, NC and Rebecca Vinson Davidson and husband Joey of Colerain, NC. Hs grandchildren, Rebecca Ann Vinson, Amber Marie Redman and her husband Gordon, Amanda Lea May, Preston Edward Baes, Kelli Rechelle Sible, Jared Lee Vinson and Hayleigh Elizabeth Vinson. His great grandchildren, Sabina, Gavin, Mia, James, Hunter, Alayna, Bayleigh, Austin, Elle, Jaden, Hannah and Brady.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at 1:00 PM at Union Baptist Church with Dr. Greg Powell officiating.

Pascasio was born February 22, 1973, in Veracruz, Mexico, the son of Federico Martinez Rodriguez and Delfine Viveros Santos. He was an electrician.
He is survived by his wife, Graciela Martinez, his son, Johnathan Martinez and his daughter, Jeimy Solange Martinez. Two granddaughters, Jeimy Solange Martinez and Janitza Nikol Martinez. Also three brothers, Faustino Martinez, Victorina Martinez, and Fortino Martinez.

Mrs. Byrd was born June 11, 1948, in Bertie County, NC, the daughter of the late Russell Phelps and Carthinia Harrison Phelps. She was also predeceased by a sister, Sarah Howell and a brother, Julian Phelps.
She is survived by her husband Lonnie James Byrd Jr. her daughter, Cindy Cummings of Aulander, NC and two sons, Michael Paul Byrd and Jason Tyler Byrd, both of Raleigh, NC. Her sisters, Lois Hoggard of Tunis, NC, Shirley Jean Hoggard of Plymouth, NC and a brother, Wayne Phelps of Moyock, NC. Her grandchildren, Nikkie, Kelly, Brandon, Jordan and Micayla. Her great grandchildren, Chassidy, Grayson, Emily and Lenore.

Mr. Henry Grady Britton Jr., age 87 of Pendleton, NC passed away Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids, NC.

He was born August 25, 1928 in Northampton County, NC, the son of the late Henry Grady Britton and Grizzie Blythe Britton.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Julia Barnes Britton; one daughter, Donna Britton Davis and her husband Mike; one son, David Britton and his wife Susan; four grandchildren, Allison Britton Wagner (Brandon), Michael Davis, Alex Britton (Sarah Grace), and Hillary Davis and her fiancé, Tommy Crowder; two great-grandchildren, Madelyn Wagner and Corbett Britton; two brothers, William J. ‘Billy’ Britton (Millie) and Ellis Britton as well as several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Britton was a life long farmer and gardener who continued to work the land during his retirement. During his later years, he enjoyed working in his garden and sharing the fruits of his labor with friends and neighbors. He also enjoyed visiting shut-ins and local nursing homes spreading humor and cheer. Mr. Britton was also active for several years with Meals on Wheels.

Mr. Britton was a Veteran of the US Army having served during the Korean War from 1953-1955.

He was an active member of Galatia Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for over fifty years. He and his wife Julia taught Sunday School together for fifty years as well. He also served as church treasurer and Brotherhood Director.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Galatia Baptist Church with Rev. David Foster officiating. Burial will follow at the Britton Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson, NC from 6:30 until 8:30 PM and other times at the home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Galatia Baptist Men, c/o Galatia Baptist Church, 1219 Galatia Road, Seaboard, NC 27876.

She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Tripp Mitchell, her grandchildren, John Caleb Mitchell, Renee Tripp Farmer, and Jason Tripp. Her sister, Lillian Gandee , her brothers, Bob Brown and Jimmy Brown. Her daughter-in-law, Barbara Rheaa Tripp, her sister-in-law’s, Doris Brown Melbourne, Carolyn Brown, Martha Brown and Mildred Brown Hamilton. Also a brother-in-law, Fred Clark.

Susan was born June 24, 1950 in Richmond, Kentucky.
She is survived by her children, Suzanne Hudson, Sean Chandler and Shanna Chandler. Her parents, Rev. Daniel Bowman and Dolores C. Bowman. Her siblings, Sandy Brock-Justice (Ronald), Barsha B. Hasty (Rupert), Roberta Vanags (Johnny) and Danny Bowman (Bette Jones). Her grandchildren, Kristen Hudson, Jamie Hudson, Jesse King, Christian Chandler and Levi Chandler. One great grandson, Jacob Dean Mahoney.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Susan’s Life will be held Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 4:00 PM at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson, NC with Rev. Jim Cox officiating.

Mr. Britton was born July 27, 1929 in Northampton County, NC, the son of the late Troy Irvin Britton and Vivin Bridgers Britton. He was preceded in death by his sister, Alise B. Askew.He was a member of Lasker Baptist Church and a retired farmer.
Surivivors include his wife, Blannie Barnes Britton, his son Keith Britton and his wife Wanda, his daughter, Jean B. Newton. Four grandchildren, Jennifer B. Donahoe and her husband Joe, Jonathan Britton, Dustin Newton and Hannah Britton. Two great grandchildren, Luke Franklin Donahoe and Rebekah Donahoe. Also a niece, Crystal Askew.
A graveside memorial service will be held Monday, February 21, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Lasker Cemetery, Lasker, NC with Rev. Willie McLawhorn officiating.

She was also pre-deceased by her first husband William Alford Roope, her second husband Thomas Garrett Clifton, her daughter Linda Roope Overby, a sister, Louise Wray and a brother Houston Beckner.
She is survived by her sons, Jimmy Roope and his wife DJ, Michael Roope and his wife Donna, Gary Roope, William (Kenny) Roope and his wife Sharon. A sister, Clair Gould and two brothers, George Beckner and Aubrey Beckner. Also, a special friend and caregiver Clara Harvey and special friend Jackie Walker.

Mrs. Sandra Lee Jenkins Grant age 64, of Murfreesboro, NC passed away Friday, February 26, 2016 at her home.

Mrs. Grant was born March 23, 1951 in Richmond, VA, the daughter of the late Millard Thomas Jenkins and Peggy Jenkins.

She loved to crochet and many of the things she made she would give to friends.
She is survived by her husband, Lawrence Simpson (Buck) Grant. Her son, Bobby Cox. Two stepsons, Lawrence James Grant and Adam Gregory Grant. A brother, Butch Jenkins and a sister, Connie Tucker.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, March 1,  2016 at 4:00 PM at Severn Cemetery in Severn, NC with Rev. Jim Cox officiating.
